Monthly Navigator Volume II, Issue 1, April 2010
In January 2010, Roger Fread, a retired teacher and
athletic director at North Mahaska CSD in New Sharon, Iowa, joined the ITM as the Project Leader for the Transportation
Heroes program. The primary goal of the program is to encourage youth to pursue careers in transportation. Please visit the web-site www.transportationheroes.org to learn about the program and nominate your transportation hero.
USDA Guaranteed Loan
In late 2009 the ITM begin pursuing the possibility of
obtaining a USDA Guaranteed Rural Development loan to assist in launching the Phase One construction project. Once the loan is approved the ITM should be able to begin construction and be open to the public in approximately 14 months.
Annual Membership
Don’t forget to renew your annual membership to the ITM. A gift of $100 or more allows you to become an active supporter of the museum and receive notices and invitations to special events. The ITM is designated by the IRS as a 501(c) (3)-tax exempt charitable organization
2nd Annual ITM Bike Ride
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for June 26, 2010 when
the 2nd Annual ITM Bike Ride will be held in Grinnell, Iowa.
Plans are being developed to feature “High Wheel” bike group at this year’s event.
Each year Pepsi Cola gives away millions of dollars to non profits. This year after submitting an application, the ITM was selected as a finalist to be eligible for receiving $25,000. Persons were able to assist the ITM by going on line each
day in March to http://www.refresheverything.com and voting for the Iowa Transportation Museum.
Home & Community Expo
On Saturday, March the 20, the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce held their annual Home and Community Expo at the Grinnell High School. Working the ITM booth were Executive Director Chuck Brooke and local ITM volunteer Gordon Borthwick. Also working the booth and not pictured was Susan Hiner, Administrative Assistant. More than seventy-five people visited the booth to learn about the ITM.
Spaulding Auto Model
Gordon Borthwick presented a model of a Spaulding automobile to Dr. Robert Baumann. The car was personally
builtby Borthwick.
