On Saturday morning, August 2, the Hawk “A” Model A Restorers Club out of Cedar Rapids, toured Grinnell as the first stop on their August outing.
Jan Wenger, club president, had previously arranged for an in-dept tour of the Grinnell Historical Museum. He also had contacted Charles Brooke, executive director of the Iowa Transportation Museum, about the ITM.
Michele Parslow, Grinnell Historical Museum guide, gave a special tour of the local museum in which the visitors expressed immense interest.
Brooke then gave a current update and status report of the Iowa Transportation Museum in Grinnell. After answering club members’ questions about the ITM and the Spaulding car now being restored, Brooke led the caravan of the seven Model “A” Fords plus a support vehicle past the site of the future Iowa Transportation Museum at the old Spaulding factory and continued past a few other Grinnell areas of historical interest.
The group then enjoyed a leisurely lunch together before moving on to visit the Neal Smith Wildlife Preserve in Prairie City and spending the night in Colfax.
